Payday: The Heist

Payday: The Heist
Well what can I say about this awesome game, to start it’s definetly value for money since it at least gives you a few hours of exciting game play for its perfectly placed price point. However you should be aware of that this is no sneaky Heists but full on action and sometime there is more police then there are zombies in left for dead or perhaps that just the feeling since they shoot back.

The game has 6 different heists to choose from. All are interesting scenarios (but where is the Casio?) but the outdoor missions doesn’t work as well as the more proper heists. I would really have liked another straight up bank heist, perhaps a mission where you can take 2 banks at once? Call me, I have the plans for that ;) It’s nice that there are some sneaking but not to much because its not where the focus of the game play. But the game does make it interesting shifting objects, paths and events. I don’t think its balanced only random and that can be frustrating. I so would like more of this even though I know how complex the scripting becomes. Challenge accepted? And also more Easter eggs, like the overkill logo and First world bank commercials in “heat street”. Perhaps a Franz Jäger safe somewhere?

There is still a few things that I miss in this game, number one is big bad ass backpacks for the players once they got the gold/money/dimonds and so on. When you got then you should move just a little bit slower. This would add much to the feeling of almost getting away with all that money. As the game is now it feels like your just running away. Fingers crossed that this will be implemented in the patches or DLC.

Another problem this game has (and yes I’m very picky) is that it suffers from bad achivements/challenges and progress system. Some challenges breaks the game system very bad. Like the one where you should level up with the last kill being a sniper, once you shoot your sniper you win by not shooting in the shooting game. Yes, its as bad as it sounds.
And why is there not any achievement for shooting cameras? I find that very supricing.

As a summary I would like to say that this is an awesome game perhaps 8/10 only visuals and some bugs dragging it down a little (I have convinced 5 people to buy it so far, none have been disappointed) so go buy it now! And if anyone from Overkill reads this, please hire me :)

A wild Dim Raven appears!

A good friend of mine. Has decided to write some blog-posts about the Torque2D engine. Because he doesn’t have a blog on his own, he will be a guest writer here on mine. Looking forward to seeing some more updates here and I will try to write some more myself. And if you want any of your computer related text to be here, just let me know and we can make it happen. Take care.

Swedish Game Conference

October 7th, 2011

Here I am on the train riding home from two great days in Skövde and the Swedish Game Conference (sgc), a well kept secret I must say. The highlight for me was that I shook hands with Nolan Bushnell, got some fantastic stories over lunch (sitting at the same table talking about Minecraft among other things). Food has been great all around, lunch and dinner. Back to topic. Nolan’s keynote was fantastic and inspiring as well. I met several old friends and perhaps made a few new ones. Its never a bad thing to let the world know you exist. There was a lot of Segway talk but that was part of the plan. Having lots of half drunk people test drive might have been a bad idea but in the end I was the one who fell. Wet wheels on iron is not ideal Segway condition. The only sad part of the conference was the news about Mr. Jobs passing. R.I.P.

I can recommend sgc to everyone, I will do my best to be back next year as well. My pictures suck (iphone 3gs) so I will do my best to find some online and share with you and finally a special thanks to Fredrik Eriksson for the fantastic hotel service ;)

Looking for work!

October 4th, 2011

Tomorrow I’m going to Swedish Game Conference in Skövde. Looking forward to do some networking, attend some great lectures and meet some old friends. Part of the plan is to have a big QR tag on my shirt that links to this page so that people will find me. Since I will be taking the Segway (on the train, I won’t ride it all the way, hehe) I ‘m quite sure that I will be noticed.

So if you found me that way: Hello :) please check out my cool portfolio and feel free to contact me if you or anyone you know is in need of a really good level designer.

Right now I got much to do. But I will post an update at the end of this week!

Svengali

July 9th, 2011

Svengali Two nights ago I was in London at the Shaftesbury Theatre for Derren Brown’s latest show: Svengali. He asked the audience to keep the content of the show a secret and I will try do so and not give anything away. Having seen his previous theater shows on dvd I had high expectations and this just blow my mind, this is in opinion his best show. The only thing I didn’t like was that it ended. Don’t get me wrong the finale was awesome I just wanted more! There was only one bit that I have seen him do before and that was still a good choice (and keep in mind that I have seen all his tv series, shows and specials several times). True that some parts are variations on previous bits but at the same time they where all improvements. I’m also looking forward to the day when this gets out on dvd so that I can dissect it some more since I managed to pick up quite a lot of ways that he influenced people. If the tour (that is said to go on to 2012) goes to Sweden I will probably try to go again :) and finally a small spoiler, the steam-punk setting was gorgeous and perfectly spot on. Pictures of this and most of the trip will be posted on my facebook!
